So at boomtown I was given a polite slap on the wrist. I was given a 5kw limit for the venue but had 26kw of amps plugged in. Mostly because other than sub (Powersoft K10), all my other drivers including my compression drivers were powered off Lab4000s LOL thankfully the guys on the audio team gave me the benefit of doubt, especially when I showed them my tech spec and  power consumption was only 600w on the logged power meters. Most of this was on the back of some noise complaints from our neighbours (mostly acoustic acts) so had a lot low end bleed. Thankfully mostly sorted by a lead curtain and some tweaks to make their system louder. Though I did have to do some notching out.

So anyways, I quite like labs even if they are aging so I'm contemplating getting some Lab1600s to power the 12PE32 and BMD750s. I always though they were lower powered versions of the 4000s but now I remember Chris CSG once saying they were a different topology (Class AB iirc). Is that right?

Just to throw in the 1300c and 2000c was something i briefly had from that era and they were lovely. Sold them on to 4D in the end out the back of a tour van outside tunbridge wells forum. There was also a 4ch 1200c which would be fine for comps. I only ever used a 1200c for some wedges on a hire and thought it was a little underpowered for running 12+1 together.

I have had similar issues with noise police, coming in and adding up all the amps total output and ignoring the reality of the actual power draw. Though this year Vanguardia seem to have finally accepted that a 2k amp driving two 16 ohm 150 watt compression drivers is not 2k output..:0)

Lab gruppens  I have been using 1600's 2000's & 4000's forever.  Very little trouble beyond a regular clean out of the foam dust filters and occasional squirt of pot juice.   They work for me.

Well since I gave up on lugging the trusty EPC floodlight rack around.

I have had a few advances in recent years asking for something of that nature (system spec in kw) but it's not tended to manifest into any encounters onsite and my replies would be considered rambling (by myself)

this is where unbranded 1U amplifiers come into their own. Sound police have to be really clued up to know they are rated at 4*6000W

Especially if you get some 4 x 150w decals made for the front panels. Wink

I'm not one to take the piss. Venue was plenty loud enough and got loads of compliments.
