I was going to buy some cheap second hand 18" scoops but think I would probably be better off quality wise building some scoops to fit a budget driver.

Whats the best budget design / driver combo?

Thanks,

Ed

Well, depends on how cheap your talking - but for relatively low costs you could build the Super Scooper, and load with Precision Devices PD186. These drivers are excellent for the price, and i believe many have used them in Super Scoops with very good results.

The PD186 can be had from Blue Aran for £179ea.

They have a 5" VC and 700w power handling - give them 1000w and they'll really pound out those lowz .

The Super Scooper was originally designed for the PD1850 but those drivers are very expensive and a lot of audiophiles say they are more of a workhorse driver - hard sounding with one-note bassline - although capable of monstrous SPL...

The PD186 will give you a phat and round sounding bassline, with a warmer tone than the PD1850, which sounds great for reggae...

Hope this helps, let me know what you decide to do...

- Joe.

Or even cheaper the Celestion FTR4080F which are 600w rms, 4 inch vc, 6mm xmax. And are only £99 inc vat new each.

Or the Celestion FTR4080FD thats 1000w rms and only £140 inc vat new each.

But if you can afford £140, its better to save up £30 more and get the PD186. Or even better the Void V18-1000[1000w rms, 5 inch vc] for £199 inc vat from Komotion LTD and a few other places.
