Can any one recommend some not to pricy but sturdy lights suitable for outside?

To do what? Festoon is a cheap way to make areas look pretty, there are lots of cheap outdoor LED fixtures available now for throwing colour at things, or you could go down the HMI / Son route for bigger coverage
