walt, i notice that your colleagues have used 7 laminate ply in those pictures
(presumably an availability/cost thing). do you know if the choice of material has had any effect on resonances etc? james. |

I am planning to build 8xpunisher horns and 4xtro to complete the
system. Is there as distributer for the ciare driver in the uk? or is it best to go direct to ciare? Also where is the best place to put inspection holes in the x-tro I have drawn the plans up on some software I use for work (IV10 Pro). I be happy to share them If any wants to see them. I can export .dxf. dwg - the Acad type files. below is a rendering from my software. Hopefully I will have something like that at the end! cheers, and happy hopping.

very good, although you've missed out the beyma 245s! they are mid tops
without the tops... i reckon you'd be getting all manner of comb filtering problems arraying your tops like that but still, a brutal stereo. be nice to set it up in a big room and do some real quadrophonic coolness. james. |

I know. I got all exited about making a big stack and left them off the model.! they are on there now though! great thing about using software like inventor for this project - i've just sent off a load of files to plonk straight into a cnc machine... so no worries about wonky cuts there! has anyone got into building their own amps? I work for an electronics company at the moment and have access to some PCB layout software and quite fancy giving that a go too!... I have found a schematic for a 1000watt switchmode type amplifier - any one know of a decent schematic for an amp suitible for powering this sort of rig? Cheers carlos. |

james is talking about the comb filtering you're going to get if you place all the xtros in one straight line like that. they all have carefully controlled dispersion, and need to be placed splayed apart to avoid interference

@carlos
I'm no stranger to elctronics myself and I think you would be /very/ hard pushed to make a better sounding and cheaper amplifier than you can buy off the shelf, even with access to make free PCBs. It's all down to the volumes of production, professional design teams and years of experience that amplifier manufacturers have at their disposal. |

I've got a "pen pal" of sorts in Texas that is building his own amps. I think he visits this forum, but I've never seen him post. Warren? Jim |
