This. Even short horns like a HD15 don’t sound right above 150Hz to my ears, so you’re still going to need good speakers on top.

I recently had a chance to have some hd's on top of my 1850 horns and I thought it sounded much better. Lets the horns concentrate on lower bass and lets the hds concentrate on kick. Tempted to get my own pair. 
Matrix XP3000H, Thomann TA1050, Peavey CS1400, QSC RMX1450
2 x Eminence Kappa and PSD2002 loaded x15's
2 x SN-15MB and BM-D450 loaded X15's
2 x V18-1000 loaded 1850's
Behringer DCX2496
