Been looking into building a system and this cabinet seems to be the rite cab for me...

I have the Plans for the WSX bass cab. and i plan on building 6-10 of those.

But my aim is to find the plans for the W8C mid-top cabinet... Does anybody know where i can get hold of them? Can i buy the boxes empty (to save on building)?? would i be best ringing Martin Audio up about the cabinet??

I did a search and found 1 topic about the cabinet, but it had a lot of russian or something like that in it which i dont understand. All Help Appreciated, Nigel

W8C'S  use phl and b+c drivers, on phase plugged horns, for the effort it will take to get even close, just buy the cabs second hand. you can expect to pay around £1k to £1500 each. you won't be able to get hold of the phl 12" and the hi mid horn section.

iirc phill dekked at bdlm has 4 for sale at the moment.

I heard that loophole was planning on making up some horn moulds and cloning them but driver choice will be an issue.  Whatever, they won't 'be' a W8C

So i would be better off building something like the W8C then.

With a 12" driver, 1" exit Comp. Driver w/ horn and a bullet.

I have got the exterior Dimensions of the W8C and a bit of info about the power of the drivers and stuff used in them.

I would run the 1" compression driver and Bullet thru a Passive X-over so in sense it would b a 2way cabinet. Running on top of 3/4 WSX Bass cabs.

The all-important 6" mid-horn will be the most difficult thing to reproduce.  Limmer do a suitable one piece 6"/1" moulded horn.

He could try Wembley Loudspeakers in London for PHL gear if he can get at the Model Numbers.

They often have ton loads of PHL stuff that people with Martin boxes, want to get rid off, and "upgrade" to something else...  They said it, not me.

I bought a meaty looking pair of PHL 15" sub drivers (700 watts RMS, 4" VC); Put them in an empty Vega 2x15 reflex box I had, and they sounded absolutely sh*te.. Knew I should have got FANES.

Still wondering what to do with them...

i wonder... mykey said some far eastern firm was knocking off phl drivers,
they look identical to the genuine thing, even the boxes are the same, but
they are total pony being sold at top whack pricing. it's always possible
that you ended up with some of them...

ceharden is right i think, the closest way of emulating a wavefront top
would be a 6 + 1" limmer horn and then i'd put a porn horn underneath
it. the dispersion is a bit too wide on the limmer to be an accurate copy
but you'd have yourself a pretty decent top box. pricey mind, but good
things are.

The Porn horn 12" has to obey physics. It doesn't take on its final directivity until higher frequencies and might work quite well with th e Limmer 6"/1", but you have to ask yourself of how much use a 90 degree 6"/1" horn combo is above a 12" horn (i.e. the usual larger format Mid-bass)

Funnily enough someone here has just built some exactly like that.....
