Gauss is literally impossible to get reconed.

I know a guy that sold some Compression Drivers, on Ebay 2 years ago, due finding all Gauss recone kits, stopped being produced.

And he was a reconer!

I hope you didn't win that bid.

The Speaker on Ebay is a 5840.

The recone kit, is for the 4883.

Let me clear up a few things. The Correct model number is 4580.

The recone kit (4883) is for an 18 inch. You won a 15 inch.

I don't think its going to fit.

Literally impossible-- well LOL there is a solution round most things considered 'impossible'

http://www.wembleyloudspeaker.com  in Sheppards Bush [0208 7434567]----  recone every speaker make imaginable  inc CAR,PA,MI,HIFI. And the prices for the recones and labour are pretty cheap.Eg Eminence Sigma pro 18 is £60 inc vat inc labour to recone I found out.

I used to own some of these 15" gauss drivers. Wembley Loudspeaker is definately the people to contact. Kits from them were around £150+vat, I think.

Toxic

I'm talking recones, using the original factory recone kits.

Gauss, went out of business in the late 80's.

You may, can get them reconed, but they won't offer the TS from the originals. Which defeats getting them reconed in the first place.

What I am basically saying is, don't waste your time reconing this speaker.

Like the majority of Gauss drivers, they offered a small xmax (This driver offers a 2 mm xmax) and, were popular when you used Crown DC 300's for bass.

The remains of Cetec Gauss was bought by Electrovoice. That was bought by Telex. They are now some other company called EVI. They own Klark, Midas, Dynacord, Telex, and some other big names. Some of the former employees from Gauss, bought back the Gauss name, produced for a very short time, and then went out of business again. EVI no longer owns Gauss, but when I last spoke with them they still had some diaphram kits for HF4000 drivers. Other than that, there are no original Gauss cone or diaphram kits available unless they are new old stock sitting in a store somewhere.
I have a contact who has a Gauss 4583A cone kit. That's all I've been able to find. This person wants $200 Canadian for the kit. That comes awefully close to the price of a good quality 15" driver that I can get replacement cone kits for. I love Gauss drivers because of the history I have with them. They are not great drivers by today's standards, but I still like them.
When my old Gauss drivers finally give up the ghost (probably a very long time in the future) I'll replace them with something much more current. Right now, I'd like to find a distributor in Canada who could set me up with some P-Audio gear. That stuff really seems nice.
Best of luck trying to find original parts for the Gauss. There are companies who claim they can put together aftermarket kits for Gauss baskets.

I agree with Elliot. Even if you are able to find a recone kit, its going to be more expensive than a brand new modern driver which sounds better, and is louder.

Which is exactly why mine went on ebay a while ago.

http://www.rmjloudspeakes.co.uk/ A mate of mine uses this guy for a lot of recone work. Might be able to source something a bit cheaper.
