another month goes by and still no scoops. Can you explain why it's taking so long Mykey?

I'm building my cabs in the evenings and weekends, about 3 nights a week and every other weekend. In this time over a few months I have designed a cab from scratch and have nearly finished building 4 of them. There's about 50 pieces of wood in each cab.

biotec, you didn't answer my question about making an EXACT copy of the cone for your diffuser?

mykey, I was seriously interested in your dubsubs, I had the money sitting and waiting to spend on some new subs for my system but in the end I just couldn't wait any longer and spent my cash elswhere. I know me buying 4 subs is no big deal for you but you lost out on some business simply because it took you so long.

As for the cone copy, I have made one but it did not come out perfect (slightly oval) so I will make another when I have time. I do not want an exact copy of the cone, I want an exact copy of the dustcap and I want the gap between the cone surface and the rear of the plug to increase towards the baffle as shown below. The tit shaped front section is already made by lathing circles of layered MDF.:

here is how I do it:

1. Cover the driver cone in a thin layer of cling-film

2. make a card cone that is the correct depth, has the correct diametre where the back of the plug meets the front, and has the same diameter at the other end as the dustcap.

3. Cover the inside of the card cone in clingfilm.

4. Make MDF rings that slot over the card cone to enable it to maintain a circular profile when it tries to deform under casting, particularly at the top where the diameter is largest.

5. Put the card cone and MDF ring assembly over the driver so that the dustcap and paper cone are pressed together tightly.

6. Cover it all in vaseline and pour a watery mixture of strong plaster into it.

7. Allow it to set, remover all the card and clingfilm. The plaster master will be the right shape but will have wrinkles and small air pockets.

8. smooth the master until you can use it as a mirror by filling the imperfections with p38 and sanding back with finer and finer grit.

9. Paint with sealant and make a mould of the master using RTV silicone.

10. Cast as many plugs sections as you want using casting resin with fillite or any other lightweight filler. If the plug section was any bigger I would make it hollow but it is not necessary with the size of plug I am making.

Any suggestions?

If this is what you've done, my suggestion is that you give yourself a pat on the back.

I have made the front sections and they came out very well. I made the plaster master for the back section but I did not use the MDF rings and as a result the top of the back section (where it meets the tit) is slightly oval and so does not mate properly.

I have put some threaded rod sticking out of the back of the tit so that I can make a different back section if I change the drivers and simply unscrew the existing section and put a different one on. I was very proud of that idea and provided I use a nylon lock nut embeded in the resin back section it shouldn't come off during operation. It makes changing drivers no problem.
