Anyone have any suggestions for infrabass cabs? I'd like something that can get to 25-30hz if possible. Tapped horn maybe? Need suggestions, help! Thanks! :)

Tapped horn isn't suitable for this purpose. 4th order bandpass I think. You don't need a plan -- just calculate it and build, it's very simple. But you have to watch accurately xmax value with high power, so you need a driver with big xmax about 12-14mm and low qts about 0.2-0.3, otherwise your cab will be huge!

"Tapped horn isn't suitable for this purpose"
Why isn't it?
Danley makes several designs that reach lower than his requirements.
As a side note, higher Qts drivers work best for BP4 enclosures. The ported front volume is too small with low Qts designs.

I would say the same! double 21" tapping :-)
I've been thinking about infrasub solutions for my rig, but it becomes crazy expensive. I have 24 bph with fane 18-1500, they don't go low, playing in stacks of minimum 6 pcs helps. 21" tapped / hog have been on my mind, or frontloaded designs like modded invader or superbasshorn. We're talking 25-50hz, I have 50-50hz covered with insane spl! Oh, or i could start over and build a new rig:-) -Louis |

Ahaha, that's funny, actually I was just looking at this thread again few days ago:-)
BUT they seem a bit ridicules to me. 21" Tapped should de smaller:-) I think supar bass horn should go to 25 hz too (in groups). A new version of invader / super bass horn could be interesting. Invaders will go down to 30 hz when used i groups, but with boxes like that I wouldn't need kicks! The invader has a bit of waste space when used with 18-1500. I've heard about 21" HOG scoops, about these Tony Wilkens wrote this on speakerplans: "I do not think that a 21" version is really required other than for dick banging competitions." I never joined such competitions, but I'm sure I would be distracted by the infrabasslevel!' But as far as I know the hog plays down to 35hz, so we still miss 25-35 hz. @Rubic horn I'm considering something that can be taken appart & put back together again, a buit like the rubic horn, a horn extension or v-plating. Every so often I dreamt about scoops with the bottom part like a big jaw that can open and close down to half-size, half of the scoop volume, the bottom volume is air. By having a collapsible scoop the cone & mouth would be protected during transportation. Doing this in real life is hard I know, resonances has to be avoided. |
