Hi guys,
Does anyone know where I can find a plan similar to the angled 12" cabinet in the Fane handbook but scaled down to fit 2x Fane 8-125's? I was trying to draw it out but in all honesty I have very little knowledge on speaker boxes therefore I am terrified of ruining my build so it sounds awful! I have tried to take things into consideration such as the volume inside the enclosure but I think my box would be far superior if I had the help from the professionals!I have had a look through the forum for a similar design and there are plenty of great 8" designs however I am quite intent on having the angled cabinet. Any help would be fantastic, Cheers!

It'll be used for upper mids, I'm not sure what exact frequency range I will use but I was thinking somewhere between the lines of 300Hz-3.5kHz.
Really the most important factor is it reaching past 3.5kHz so it can reach the APT-80's. The lower mids will be a 12" dual reflex running from 90Hz.

Those 8-125 are better suited for bassmid to mid, not upper mid. Le is too high to reach that high in a decent fashion. You could bend things a bit by stacking them vertical, not angled horizontal, so the vertical beaming in the upper region makes up for the descending respons higher up. But anyhow, you can't cross them as high as 300Hz with serious power, because it will overheat in a hurry when the cone doesn't move anymore. This speaker was designed as a bassmid speaker and needs to move for cooling. Crosspoint should be not higher than around 150Hz.
If you haven't already bought those 8" Fanes, might be better to look for some 6" speakers to use. |

Thanks Pete, I guess I will have to look for another driver then, would you be able to recommend any other reasonably priced 8" drivers?
I could use the 6-100 if that is more suitable however I could do with the extra couple of inches height just to get the tweeter box as high as I can. Cheers!

I've seen the Eminence Alpha 8A with an Le of 0.44mH, it gives out the same SPL and handles the same power as the 8-125... Would this be a good driver for my plans?

In Fane 8" speakers I don't really see a suitable candidate, the 6-100 isn't the best either.
Eminence Alpha 8A looks better for your purpose. Closed cabinet of about 10-15 liters If you need the height, why not use four 6" or 8" ? Double power capacity and +6dB SPL... |

Well I measured it all out with little diagrams and it just seems to be at the right height with the tweeter box poking above everyones heads. Plus I chose some of the designs partly due to their aesthetics to the system, although in a way that would not compromise sound quality.
I'll send you a PM if that's okay with you Peter detailing what I'd like to do, maybe you would be willing to share your views? So if I'm using Alpha 8A's, might anyone have any information on a plan for this project? Cheers! |
