(got 205Ti ="usable" - couple phase-plug dips)

are their  2" phenolic Selenium good performers? - price is low in US but planewave looks weak on low end (is that back chamber related?)

leery of 2" Ti Selenium - not sure why.   How do Selenium 2" drivers sound  & compare in value with other stuff?

Hey Freddyi

I've used their D-405 phenolic for 10 years with no failures, two per side all installed in Bruce Edgar's 300 hz tractrix horns, which i've made with 15 plywood slots(what a work but you will be recompensated), crossed over at 600hz, yes 600 hz thru 3500hz, as well as their st300 tweeters from 3500hz over. Selenium made very good drivers. They doens't need any equalizing correction and what a good sound. Note that Selenium erased my name at their books due to I've worked for their concorrent for a time making car championship projects for Spyder subwoofers (We win the most).

Selenium drivers are a must and all their products are tested in their anecoic room, with the b&k testing equipment. You can trust the curves. I like their drivers, the 10PW3 woofer (see the curve), 1805 is good for bassreflex, like SB850 clones. In past I've tested some of my horns there, including the D-405 driver.

Cheers,

Paulo Duto.

Hey Paulo - thanks very much - are your DIY Edgar-horns rectangular or round?  -  have 250Hz rectangular tractrix with 2.5"x2.5" throat running JBL LE5

maybe i'll try a D405 phenolic - would take an adaptor to go on 250hz Edgarhorn - or could bolt to large Klispch laying around

have you built bandpass boxes which perform well?

Best,
Freddy

ps -  bet 10" driver DR horn by Fitzmurice is very good on electric bass - wouldn't see need for Tuba for bass-guitar bottom - but just my taste

(does Homero Sette Silva still work with Selenium?)

Hey Freddyi

I've made it rectangular 2:1 proportion of the mouth which Mr.Bruce Edgar recommended as per an article in Speaker Builder magazine now continued by AudioXpress - gives less impedance differences at all the band frequency it works. Intelegibility I think is the gain with the Edgar's midhorn made out of 15 mm plywood slots.

I'm not in contact with Selenium for some years, but I read in Brazilian prosound magazines about his courses about speakers/loudspeakers.

Regards,

Paulo Duto
