Sorry to clog up the forum with another one of these topics, but ive scoured the site and not really found one that pertains to my requirements.
For the past for years now Ive been running a hard dance event, covering genres of Uk hardcore, gabba, trance, hardstyle and hardhouse. We usually hire systems of around 10k as the venue is believed to hold around 500. Me and two of my promoting partners have finally decide to take the plunge and start getting our own rig together (with the help of a joiner friend) I would like some advise on what to build, how many etc. I understand this will not be cheap, and some of the amp, compression, x-over gear may have to be second hand, but it would be nice if some one (or a few of you) could take the time and put us together a formula of what components we'll need. Our requirements: covers musical genres mentioned (no deep basslines) Around 10k Portable as we cant leave the stuff in the club Hope you can help. Thanks |

You're a big man, but you're in bad shape. With me it's a full time job. Now behave yourself.

The Behringer DCX2496 (or if you have $ go for an XTA or a BSS) should be at the top of your list, these units cram all of your fx into one unit. You might want to purchase an EQ to augment it, though, to ease the workload...
You will be running a 3-way hornloaded rig because you don't need a sub. This will consist of bass, mid and high. Mid and high are often in the same box, as you know. I've put together a few combos for your perusal. Bass-Midtop HD215-MT122/1 Martin 215 - MT122/1 or MT102 USB/ES18BPH - MT122/1 or MT102 The HD215 is 2 HD 15s. The ES18 and YSBs are both 18" Bandpass horns, basically bigger HDs that take bigger drivers. These drop lower than the HDs. The Martin is a straightish horn with 2 15s. It goes lower and higher than the HDs, but has a different sound (bit cleaner). Once you have sorted out which speakers you want, you look for the neccesary amplification. |
