Bought a large can of this, and it appears to be working well, cleaning plugs/sockets and connectors, at a price !!
Running-out of the stuff, but looking around for a cheaper option that will do the same job without leaving too much residue. Any recommendations ? |

Servosol ipa 170 is just expensive 99.7% pure isopropyl alcohol, you can buy 5Ltrs of the 99.9% pure unbranded stuff for £18.00 delivered from ebay.
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is an excellent general purpose solvent/cleaner and won't leave a residue, Its the stuff that people used to clean vinyl records & tape heads with. Super 10 is a fairly good contact cleaner/lubricant but will attack some plastics. Edited by APW - 03 November 2017 at 11:15am |

Re the Kontakt 60, according to the manufacturer's instructions on-line, the 60 needs to be neutralised/washed-off with their WL spray, followed by an application of their no 61 spray which is a contact lubricant. Not worked out a price for all three sprays, but it will probably be in the region of £20-£25. This would be similar to one large can of Deoxit D5, but there would be a lot more of it.
I got hold of a 200ml can of Electrolube EML200, together with a 400ml can of WD40 contact cleaner for around £14 from my local RS, with the EML being the most expensive ( £7.42 inc ), today. Will try both over the weekend, and see how it goes. The Kontakt 60 was only available to order, so I chose the WD 40 which was in stock, for comparison purposes. |

Super 10 is really aimed at removing arc build up on electrical contacts (relays/switches) rather than electronics.
As it removes carbon from arc damage, not best used on Carbon track pots..... I got a bottle of Kontact 60 free when I bought a load of Wera Screwdrivers (OOOOhhh, get you with your posh tools!) and did clean a lot of things.
