As above, there is no rule of thumb for adding subs to an existing p.a really, there is so many ways it can be done.. some good some bad.. its especially difficult to combine different types of cabs.
If they are exactly the same type of subwoofer, then stacking them in an end fire array, or adding centre block and delaying the main p.a slightly to match the centre would work... One that we have found seems to work surprisingly well when combining different types of subs, i.e like adding to an existing p.a.. Is to not even try and phase align them with the p.a at the front in essence.. And just add a monoblock of equal or more output than the in house p.a's bass section, but at the back of the room, pointing back towards the p.a. to create a triangle of subs. as with any separately spaced sub stacks there will be places it lines up at certain notes and places it cancels or combines at others frequency's.... A pretty low LPF around 60 hz and you really don't notice where its coming from at all.. the bass is just all around you, with much better coverage than stereo arrays. just don't overpower the other p.a with the rear subs or it will sound gash... just add to it |
