it mainly depends on taste, budget, stack stability/overall height preferences and tone/spl ratio compromises but also defined requirements of the user in its habitats/covering their certain needs.. (horses for courses as usual) :) |

Seeing as we're in a similar situation re tops and cubo subs... I just got some JBL SP215-9s which I think will do the job fine, possibly more so with another 15" in a small cab bolted on.
They are bi-ampable or passive crossover. 600w 131db. The compression driver has a 4" voice coil and a 1.5" aperture and is crossed at 1.2khz with a JBL 2226 woofer (one of the best 15" ever made). Not sure what the going rate is for them but I got the pair for £100 (one has a blown woofer and possibly crossover damage but CD is definitely fine) so should be a good solution to muddy/ distorted mids at high SPL thanks to the whopping CD (actually weighs more than the woofer lol). Worth keeping an eye out for some on ebay as they are high end speakers designed for install (though they do have handles) and can go pretty cheap!
