Big distances here are still imperial (miles not kilometers), and so are speeds.

Most people will tell you how tall they are in feet and inches too.
Keep pushing on, things are gonna get better.

Almost! They're commonly known as "eight by four" sheets (meaning eight foot by four foot) but are actually 1220mm X 2440mm.

I'm 57 and it all changed as we were learning. I cannot use my minds eye for people in KG (I use Stones) but cannot fathom lbs in the gym, (use kgs). It goes on like that, peoples height in ft and inches but build cabs in metric. Distance however is in miles.

 Tried to explain to a 13 year old that we originally had to add up in:

Base 12 (pence in shillings). Base 20 (shillings in pounds). Base 14 (lbs). Base 16 (ounces).

And then there are Guineas.

13 year old quite rightly said...................WHY?

thanks dj eddie 1220 x 2440 is 4ft x 8ft exactly, plasterboard is metric tho and I believe hardboard
