Hi guys,
Sorry if this in the wrong spot, just signed up. Im looking at building a rig with 8 subs, 4 mids and 4-6 tops. For the subs, ive been looking at FaitalPRO 18XL1600 drivers. The specs for these are incredible in every aspect and the response curve is the most impressive ive seen. Im not too worried about cost, weight or size. DB and clarity is major priority. They will be mainly used for psytrance which performs around 45 - 100hz in the sub end. Other bass music will be played on them as well so getting down to 30hz comfortably will still be important So far the box designs ive found that are best suited for this driver are the Keystone and Startec - Super bass horn. Before i go spend AU$900 on a driver, id like a bit of reassurance that these are worth the money and that a cheaper alternative with equal performance isnt available. 2nd, if these drivers are worth it, which box design is recomended? Keystone or startec Thank you, the link the driver is below https://www.parts-express.com/faitalpro-18xl1600-18-neodymium-professional-subwoofer-8-ohm--294-1313 Edited by Psyfold - 27 March 2018 at 10:12am |

SBH will want an extra ‘kick’ box for psytrance. The Keystone is a more all-round box and also benefits from working in singles or multiples. You’ll need three or four SBH on every show and if you’re not careful, in some venues the bass will be ‘in the car park’ due to the interaction with the air in front of the horns.
Where are you in Straya? Phil Dekked has some Keystone in Melbourne that you could listen to? If you’re not set on building it all, Marjan on here also has a 4.18 hornloaded sub that seems to be popular with psytrance in Eastern Europe and the components and build are great. It plays low and loud enough, and I reckon you could do a decent deal considering your driver import price. Edited by toastyghost - 27 March 2018 at 10:26pm |

Austria ≠ Australia. Though given the reference to AU$ rather then € in the OP, perhaps he was careless enough to put entirely the wrong country in his profile... |

hahaha yeah thats suppose to be australia, not austria. The AU$ should have been a dead give away though.
Anyway sorry for the really late reply. Gonna build a couple of keystones to start with because i have a party happening in june. Then ill build the SBH when i have all 8 and the low mids. Cheers

Our 2 x Keystones are really good all round subs, we have B&C SW115's in ours and they work well under our SS15 tapped horns. If you want a demo we're Melbourne based and maybe could work something out...
