+1 Its actually the MOST important. It will determine what you can/can't do, as well as how long you can play. You can talk as much as you like about sound sources, crossovers, eq, processing etc. - but the starting point with all that is "yeah, but how do I get power to it". Class D amp boards, battery to provide appropriate voltage, MPPT charger, solar panel(s). With reasonable cabinet efficiency, loads of electricity is not needed for decent SPL in a small space!

Yes - true - BUT ..... likely as not you'll wind up with amp modules that need somewhere between 24-50V. If using DIY crossovers, pre-amps etc. - its gonna (fundamentally) want +15V/-15V, other stuff might need +12V - a laptop is usually gonna want +19V ..... its NOT so easy/straightforward. |

And off grid doesn't mean he doesn't have 240v generator...
Also important is if it needs to be transportable, if not big horns can improve efficiency.

you really want to plaster the inside of a straw structure or the air will be constantly filled with dust. when properly tied together and rendered a straw wall is actually very rigid and a very good sound barrier.

Well, perfectly possible to find amp boards to run on 24V, Sure ADAU1701 DSP for crossover/alignment/EQ, DC-DC step down modules for +12, +5 and +19V rails for other electronics, build a 6S 18650 battery pack to run it all. A bit of a faff, but no more than designing and building a bunch of enclosures.

Let's see if we can get this to 3 pages before the OP provides any relevant specifics about the project

My solution to that was to use one really good, quiet, boost converter to get +48v for the power amp, then a linear regulator to drop that to +24v which I split with a virtual ground circuit into +24/+12/0, to power the crossover (capacitor coupled inputs and outputs of course). Other pieces of low voltage equipment (preamp, Bluetooth, radio transmitters) each get their own linear regulator to drop the battery voltage to whatever is required. I tried doing it all with switchmode converters, but the small cheap convenient ones are just too noisy for audio. As long as you don't need several amps of output at a voltage much lower than your battery, linear regs are fine, and you can get any voltage you need.
