To be fair you can also turn a reflex cabinet into a horn, you just have to remove the baffle, take apart the side walls and reconstruct it with some new panels in the middle.

[/QUOTE]

I've seen a number of "recommend me a mid top" threads and the usual response to them is a choir singing MT102.. not that there's anything wrong with the design.

For example dancetech has a few plans which are ok I guess. For a line array, basically any cabinet that's trapezoidal put on it's side in numbers can be turned into one but you'd need to pay attention to the processing and other stuff related to line arrays such as phasing and coverage.

But then again, how should I know..

I think many full range cabs can be used as mid tops.. not the other way around.

Priceless

Back to the OP - The Orbit 4 is a fine choice, and almost impossible to beat for the price if you're after new boxes. Fit a M20 cup or top hat in your subs and use the built in tilt for extra benefits.

Yes but most of the road warrior DJs/entrepreneurs out there are probably using the same kind of mid top, say a Mackie Thump 12 or similar. In venues with 100-200 capacity one *has* to stand out somehow, and the sound system can be a place to start given that the show itself is on point.

Most people working with sound are usually very concerned about the low end and totally forget the highs (like I did)

And getting something custom has to be either built, which takes some skill or built-to-order by a specialist which in turn can be expensive.

One solution would be to get a pair of cheap/empty 12" enclosures (there are literally thousands of ebay listings from small bands selling their practice cabs) and put some high-end drivers in them.

Tom Umney, is that you mate?

Narrr,  Tom was never this bad, this guys on a whole new level.
