Tried 9001 with 2x 8 ohm drivers per channel, even with decent 32A supply, was fair amount of SPL, but not enough.

Need to know, If I replace drivers with 4 ohm versions, Will be more power to each driver, but will I lose:
  • Noticeable driver control,
  • Sound quality,
  • Damping?

Of Course will be 4mm2 cable to each cab from amp.. Embarrassed

For greater SPL, use more amps and more speakers!

No lower impedance.

Possibly the loudspeakers you are using are too powerful for the Crest 9001 to drive properly.

The Crest 9001 might be an exception to this rule, being one of the very few, truly 2 ohm capable amps, in terms of psu & O/p devices.

If OP has 4 ohm drivers capable of withstanding 1600w rms, then 9001 would have no problem driving pair per channel, if Power supply is robust, same with power and mains cables..

Just needs to be able to switch amp on, without inrush taking out breaker!!

Rather than changing your existing drivers to 4Ohm, just buy two more 8Ohm and run 3 drivers per channel (in more cabs obviously).  That will give you A LOT more SPL than the very small increase you'll get by just putting more power into your existing drivers.

Due to the very real phenomenon that is power compression.  Once you're already running at a reasonable power level (which with a 9001 you will be), increasing the power into the driver any more will most likely just generate more heat in the voice coil and barely any more sound coming out.

Or take four pieces of 16 Ohm drivers, still 4 Ohm .. and use a modern *large* amp!
Have not I told you the dirty truth that 16 Ohm version of standard drivers not only produce better SPL - due higher efficiency - but far outperfom in pulse response all of their lower impedance brothers!?
The overall efficiency if further improved due lower cable, connection losses and you did not go bellow 4 Ohm!

PS: all of this 4, 8 Ohm shit has happened because of only one reason: there was not proper capable amp to deliver the Voltage that time.. long long ago. Otherwise we would have been enjoyed the extraordinary 16 -25 Ohm drivers!

Years ago, a number of crews used 4x 16 ohm drivers, on strong amps in 4 ohm bridge, to devastating effect.

Only problem is, selling on 16 ohm drivers, is very difficult.
