My first impression would be that Tham12 under Res3 sounds pretty lame. I haven't tried it but it seems it'd be a bit of a waste. My inclination would be to put at least 2 18" or bigger proper subs under res3. Tham12 is a good pub gig bass speaker but you're gonna need something a bit more serious to keep up with those tops. My first stop would be a 218 cab with big modern drivers and a serious amp behind it per side.

A proper tapped horn does not go lower in stacks of multiples. It’s one of the benefits of the design type, the response stays much the same from one box to many, only dispersion changes.

I do not think that a bassreflex 18 is more efficient at 45hz, at most will have the same efficiency, the tham 12 with B & C 12PS100 at 40hz has 95db, while at 50hz you have 103db .. I challenge any reflex to have these pressures!
sure, if more coupled crates do not come down I can give 6 tham15 :) The tham 15 with 15nbx100 at 40 / 50hz makes 102 / 104db!

this is turbo 118
rcf tt28 dual 18": 40hz 90db, 50hz 93db.. 80hz 98db I would say that the tham15, but also the 12, has lower than the turbo 118 and double rcf 18 .. there is to be seen if you are tham 15, they come down better than 4 turbo 118! Main dilemma;) Edited by Angelow - 08 July 2018 at 4:17pm |

at the end its a matter of taste - your taste..
neither tham 12/15, or similar sized small THs, nor BPHs like F215/218, Turbo etc. do much below 50hz, even in groups there is simply no "authority" below 45hz imho.. some like that type of sound, some dont ;) stacking height, amp channels and transport are some points worth a thought too.. imho a proper 15/18" reflex is still the most versatile, easy to build cab design, need more spl - use more cabs, 3/4:1 ratio to the res2 should be fine for most music styles.

Having heard lots of horns/BPHs and owning THAM 15, I would say that a BPH like the Turbo or F1 will sound more punchy/distortion like but a tapped horn will sound more clean and tight, maybe a little bit more monotone. I think todays crowd can appreciate a tapped horn more.

We need more SPL!
