Definatly would be more complex but end result would be legit?

Far more sturdy, and about three times more work than a glue and screw construction, which is why it isn't commonly found or alluded to on the plans.  No room for error, so measure thrice and have a sharp chisel handy for the test assembly.  Big sash clamps and a mallet will help pop everything into place.  Your man sounds like he knows what he's doing.

Full rebating may or may not have a measurably positive effect on sound quality, but improving the solidity of mid-panel joints (i.e. the baffle and internals) will reduce harmonics in the main panels far more effectively than rebating the edges alone, where harmonic resonance is lower.  Just my 2p's worth...

I fully rebate all my cabs, there are a few other uk builders that also fully rebate. I don't see any point in part rebating, if you gonna do the job do it right..
