Hi I'm building a small DIY 12v boom box

My question is:
Will placing a switch between an amplifier out put and driver alter the impedence enough to damage the amp?

I want to a have feature that allows me to switch between the in built speakers (the ones screwed into the boom box) and an external set of passive speakers.

I plan to use a DPDT switch to swap between the two sets of speakers (L&R). The switch would be placed between the passive speaker (L&R in built and L&R external) and the amplifier output (30w 2-8ohm).

Hope to here back from you soon, many thanks.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONEmbarrassed

Here is the switch I was talking about:

The amp:

The impedance on the external speakers would 4-8 ohms and the impedance of the in built speakers is 6 ohms.

Another question in a separate in a very vain:

is it possible to wire a dual potentiometer in series between the out put of the amp and the driver,
or would this increase the impedance too much and damage the amp?Dead

thanks again for taking the time to read my stupid questions :)

Use switched jacks instead of DPDT switches: Inserting a jack speaker lead breaks the internal speaker circuit.

If you want to attenuate speakers post amplification, use L-pads.

Happy googling.
