At least I know they are probably orignals , as have a cap in them!

Is it worth having cap?

Or is it just something that might fail?

Thanks

They are originally fitted as amps from the 70's, when these were made ,had no DC protection,so would fry the drivers if the amp failed. Modern amps are much better protected. Take the caps out if you are using a good modern amp.
Be seeing you.

The 115 should be protected with a decent HPF. Original specs say 40Hz, so donĀ“t try get 25Hz out of them!   Smile

Definitely remove the capacitors, they are not needed with modern equipment.

As has been mentioned they will cause some rolloff, and phase shift which will have an adverse effect if you ever combine the 115's with additional subs.

They were nonpolarised electrolytics (3600 mF if I remember) specially made by LCR and will now be well over 30 years old, so most likely deteriorating anyway due to old age.

They were an acceptable compromise when the alternative was a DC300 or S500D going DC...
