On/ off funtion was broken so was getting destroyed by the in rusk current.

We borrowd it an assumed it was good to go. Sadly had to leave it out the rack and ran 4 1850 loaded sbh off a proline. Was half decent to be fair but had to have a hand on the gain at all times. Always thought fuses took time toblow not a sudden blast of in rush current. On/off was fried so

I'd expect the on/off switch to work as part of a soft-start circuit. If you just connect mains, it's possible the supply was trying to energise everything all at once, which would result in some very large currents.

Even slow-blow fuses will go quickly when you exceed their ratings by a large margin.
