Exactly. They're not perfect as they can't protect from the amount of signal  (ie too much power) but for the money you can't beat then. Once you have run that for a while you'll move on to a digital signal processor that can do a lot more including limiting the power but they cost more.  
 

A driver is what up until today you've called a speaker... the magnet and metal basket with a cone in it!

inuke pros and cons exhaustively covered in the archives on here.  

Lots of power for cheap but not bombproof. 

2x12 and 2x15 Tops makes no sense really.  Ideally you don't want you mix different speaker types or sizes in the same passband (the chopped up bit of the frequency spectrum we discussed earlier)
