Easy!
First time entering the world of building soundsystems (as a huge soundsystem fan and someone who has wanted to build one for a while). Have £5000 of someone else's money to build a rig. Current plan is 2x polar bear scoops, 2xkick/mid/top section, custom designed/built crossover (I do electronic engineering). Now we come to the important part - amps. Plan is to buy something second hand. Any recomendations of things in my price range (that will hopefully allow opportunity to expand!)?? Or do I just need to spend some more time lurking!? Any help or pointing in the right direction is hugely appreciated Cheers, FC

To add some details - have access to pretty much any tools, and cheap supply of wood!
Will be playing a mix of music - dub, dubstep, UK Bass etc etc

Another correction! I realise Polar Bear Scoops are not in the public domain - to clarify I would like to build an 18" scoop design of some sort (havin enjoyed the Polar's on many an occasion ;))

Work out how your going to split that money up if you can. Bass drivers 2 x £250 Kick drivers 2 x £250 Mid drivers 2 x £200 HF 2 x £150 might be ball park figures, but are you planning on building your pre amp out of this 5K too?

Keep pushing on, things are gonna get better.

I think that member toastyghost had some nice (old) amps for sale - QSC, MC2, etc. Here: |

Yes, great ideas of course. Pre amp will be out of the 5k - time is easier to come by than money though so I can put together a PCB for one myself (still a cost though, yes)

there's a huge amount of info in the archives. Worth a search.
Look up Void inf8 (infinite 8 v2) Crest 9001 Powersoft k20 (and others) Sae pqm13 Matrix xt10000 and xt7000 Not exhaustive, but if you search for all of these they'll bring up stuff you could also look for. There's option and comparison. Should help inform you.
