would anyone have a diagram for this?
Im trying to work out if the compressor is defeatable or adjustable. theres nothing obviously adjustable on the board having a permanently engaged low threshold high ratio compressor pretty much destroys its usefulness as a practice amp

Why do you think it has a compressor in it? It may well do, but the manual doesn't refer to it.
Might be putting some sort of overdrive style circuit in before a solid state amp to try and get a few extra harmonics going? That would give the effect of compression. Might show up as some anti parallel diodes/LEDs or strings of diodes in the small signal circuitry, probably pre-EQ if anywhere. Can't find any circuits or schematics unfortunately. |

Ive just got a message back from orange. theres a compressor/limiter built into the output chip as protection.
the compression I was getting was quite extreme and independent of gain or volume settings. very quick attack and release, high ratio, very low threshold - actually sounded quite nice but hardly conducive to maintaining a sense of your own dynamics rather oddly, since I reassembled the amp the compression has gone - always nice to know theres a latent fault lingering anyway, its only an inbetweener until I find an ampeg micro vr at a sensible price |

Interesting, hard to explain that one. Knowing the output chip might help but if the effect has gone, /shrug. These intermittent things are often a board interconnect issue if reseating them all has helped. |
