Design isn't entirely new, I built the original prototype with the drivers in a single column probably 10yrs ago but only just got round to doing the 'real' ones. New driver layout to make them 'bookshelf' speakers! Edited by ceharden - 01 March 2020 at 2:11pm |

The wood finish looks exactly like speakers that were designed in the late 1970's Best Regards, |

What you can't see is that in this room I have those speakers, the shelves they're sat on, the desk I sit at below them, my guitar cab and it's amp rack and another little pair of 5" hi-fi speakers, all finished the same. Birch ply, stained then Danish Oiled. My 'main' hi-fi downstairs and it's amp rack is also birch ply, stained a similar colour but varnished instead. I discovered later that Danish Oil is easier than varnishing! |

I cheated, it's using the 3-way passive crossover design Beyma did for the MC115. They'd intended it for a different 8" and dome tweeter but it's close enough and still works fine. The midrange is the trickiest bit as you can't get away from doing impedance compensation on it, which Beyma have included in the design. The original prototypes were 2-way active with just a passive on the mid-high but decided long ago to simplify the amplifier requirements. |
