Hi folks,

I'm looking for some recommendations or search terms for an amp I can use with my passive home cinema sub It's a reflex loaded with a spare LAB-12. Ideally I just want a mono power amp with power supply internal, one rca/xlr/whatever input, posts/speakon/whatever output, maybe a pot for gain.

I have a receiver with sub-out, am currently using a spare UKP1300 (if you've read my other post you might see a coincidence here) but it's too bulky and powerful for the task really.
I don't want a plate amplifier, at least not one that i've found so far, they're all too complicated with multiple inputs and outputs and crossovers and all that jazz.
Generally my searches have just found audiophile power amps that cost an arm and a leg.

Any suggestions? perhaps it's a bit niche but I'm struggling to find anything.

Thanks

Maybe something like this, depending on the amount of headroom you're looking for?

It's a bit strange... because you are actually paying relatively more for something less.

If I were you, I would re-consider the plate amplifier option. I think it actually makes the most sense in your application. See here, for example: https://www.soundimports.eu/en/audio-components/plate-amplifiers/?mode=grid&max=1500&min=0&sort=lowest

old Samson Servo 550 are inexpensive and the biggest I've found without cooling fans - which aren't great if the amp is in the listening room.

More for less alright!

It seems to me you're probably expected to have an active sub to use with a receiver. The monacor plate amps I guess I could use to convert my passive into an active but I wanted something independant.

the closest I've come to seeing the functionality I want by searching is probably this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nobsound-Subwoofer-Frequency-Channel-Amplifier-Black/dp/B075R4818V?th=1 LOL

or this:

Where's the middle ground?

Edit* I've just realised that audiolab is very much the entry level of the hifi mono amplifier world Shocked

The Dayton Audio amplifiers I've send earlier are exactly what you want then?

Well not quite, too many nobs and ins/outs. The receiver does all of the thinking, I need it to be a dumb lump of power and that's pretty much it.

If it doesn't exist at the price point I'm after then I guess I'll have to settle, albeit begrudgingly Big smile

Cyrus monoblock is your winner...

I have been considering something like this in my caravan as it runs off direct 12v input.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Premium-Bass-Digital-Audio-Amplifer-Class-D-600W-w-Subwoofer-Volume-Control/303019802816

Obvs not going to be anywhere near the wattage stated but for cinema use?? maybe.

Just get a berry NX3000, bridge it and put it in the next room. that's what loads of the surround sound boys are doing.. oooooodles of power for cinema use and cheap.

I lucked out and found one of these: absolutely spot on. It's basically what I was trying to describe.

Yep, the receiver does all the crossover work.

That's the specs, in their archive.
