hello - we're building X12 boxes from 18 mm MDF, using the recommended driver/horn combo, and are wondering about several things..
1. Is support / brackets recommended to hold the horn / driver.. ?
(or do they just float in the air?!)
2. Something else which we thought would be very obvious but isn't!.. We received the drivers & horns but no screws were supplied for the woofers (SN 12 MB) & horns
Could you please tell me what screws we would need & also how the woofers are screwed ? (From what we understand, the woofers are screwed to the back of the panel) please correct me if im wrong!
Also.. if the woofers are screwed from the back, do we have to put a removable panel so we can access them? Any suggestion for this?
3. Last thing for now : on the X12, there are two 100 mm ports/vents.. Should we add ducts or leave them empty & .. is there a recommended length for the ducts ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you..

Just had a look at the plans:
1. Yep, make up a metal L-plate to bolt to the driver/horn and screw into the cabinet top. 2. Visit to your local hardware store for fixings required...Best to use Tnuts and bolts rather than screws for the woofers, at least. You can screw/bolt in from the back, but why would you? do it all from the front, much easier and neater and no access panel required. 3. I'd say the 2 x 100mm holes/vents (actually ports) have a length of 18mm...coincidentally the same as the thickness of the ply you are using |

what he said,
best to go for allen head bolts, easer to tighten, heads usually fit [size m6] 30m should do it, but you need special bolts called tnuts that bite into the internal side of the baffle. They look like this http://www.nuvistor.it/articoli/thor/tnuts1.jpg best way to locate them is to drill an 8mm hole, and screw the bolt through with a large washer holing the nut in place until it initially gets located, i think someone has puts some picture how to do it. you can get smalled tnuts for the horn but they're hard to source and aren't really necessary - good self-tapping screw should do it if you follow Jule's l-plate advice. also there's a more handy tips available int he newbie section, making jigs etc that might be of use. hope that helps. |
