Hi everyone.

I recently took apart a driver for a recone. The pole piece doesn't seem to be sitting flush, does this mean that the magnet has shifted? The driver is from a B52 Matrix 1000 system and believe the driver is a PA-1576 (maybe a Celestion?).

Any advice gratefully received, cheers!

So long as the gap for the voice coil is even all the way around then all is good, extended pole piece will be by design, either will be a extension plate (shorting cap) or extended pole to manage the magnetic fringe field.

If the gap is not true then the woofer is dead. The idea that one can remove the pole and epoxy it back is possible but not really worth the effort. Many poles sit up beyond the plate or have alloy metal top cap . EV did this in the EVM Pro Line models to act as a heat sink and as such increase power handling. Shifted poles are many times caused by dropping the cabinet hard. Roadies be easy on those dual 18 boxes......

Nothing to worry about, many speakers have this by design.

Many thanks for all of your replies, I'll get on with the recone.

Not a bad little system these; plenty of bass, easy to set up and move around. Getting on a bit now though, just like me!

Cheers
