I only build small speakers these days due to my age. As long as they make enough noise to pi55 off the neighbours I'm happy. So here's the plan..........

Last week I was looking on the Bay and came across a pair of VOLT BM165.1. They're £300.00 a pair new  and only available from Wilmslow Audio so you can't even shop around. When I got them for £132 inc postage I was a happy chappy.

They came this morning and look like new, no issues at all.

For the top end I'm going to use a Monacor DT-300 as it crosses over at 2k and they were cheap enough (Blue Aran) that if they don't work out I can buy something else.

According to VOLT if I put these in a 12 litre box it will give me a -3dB point of 50Hz, or 20 litres will get me down to 40. A 25 litre box would go down to 35Hz but I think that's too much.

So, off to the woodyard tomorrow!!!

25 litres for a 6.5" bass-mid intended for home/studio use is plenty big, many "bookshelf" speakers using that size driver might only be giving 9-10 litres per driver.

Sure, but they barely go down to 50Hz.

I think I'm going to go for the 12l box. I don't play much that's bass heavy anyway so I think 50Hz will be plenty low enough. Plus I like to see peoples faces when all that sound comes from a tiny box.
