Hi, I'm planning a clone of JBL 4355 but I have the problem to find the JBL 2202 and JBL 2441 (central ways). A friend proposed to me the JBL 2204 to replace the JBL 2202 and the JBL 2446 to replace the JBL 2441 (always to be combined with the horn 2311 and the lens 2308): do you think it is a good choice? Thanks Giuseppe

The JBL 2446 is a good choice performance-wise to replace the JBL 2441.
Bear in mind that it is a bigger and heavier driver than the JBL 2441. |

I'd say 2204 wont cut it, as it is a different animal, a 95dB/W medium excursion woofer. 2202H is low excursion 99dB/W low-midrange with huge magnet (BxL 22,5......) 18sound 12NMB1000 (smoother) would be my bet, maybe 12MB1000 (cheaper). Beyma 12p80 series shares some of the same legacy, only with more excursion There may well be comparable driver in current JBL lineup, I'm just not aware of it, and it may sold as original sparepart only through JBL dealership... I've put 2202H's to my parents home stereo I built some 12 yrs ago, to work as bass midrange, 35-800Hz, in a 60L bass reflex cabinet. When asked not too much decibels (xmax, flux modulation), remarkably good sound. my tuppence worth, Andy |
