Hi all, just wanted to run something by you all. Previously we have run a system comprising 4 x 1850 loaded hog scoops 2 g subs 186 loaded 4 x mt121's Which we still have in my lock up. I have been pondering a plan of action over the past few months. We mainly play roots/dub (step) jungle and hip hop, but have pretty broad tastes in reality and will be doing some live work especially now our peers are in the 'getting married', 30/40th birthday, rave in a yha phase. Recently, I decided to purchase a pair of orbit 4's from Soundgear (timebomb on here) and I'm really happy with how they sound in comparison to mt121's and they are certainly more suited our needs for smaller spaces. We've been running these with our g-subs for smaller parties which have been great. So, I reckon I will order another pair and sell the mt121's That then got me thinking about a 1 box bass solution to save on space. My initial idea was to go for a full rebuild of the system and opted for 4 x Skram (single 21" bandpass) which I really like the look of. They are however not that far off a hog scoop in size, but wouldnt necessarily require a mid bass box on top. However, after much pondering, I've now come full circle and I'm reflecting on tweaking our current set up. The price of ply is high, and between work, family life and being outdoors, I don't have that much free time to fully commit to a full rebuild, but I'm keen to build something and do some fettling. On reflection, I really like our hogs and the way they sound. They are put together really well and with a bit of a tart up would work fine for bigger (and some small 😉) spaces. The g subs we inherited have served us well and get used the most, however they are quite ratty, don't have any handles/wheels and are not the best in terms of build quality. We have a So... You can see where I'm going with this. After a lot of back and forth I'm now thinking about the age old 'which kickbin to sit on top of my scoops' question. I'm looking at es18's and also some sort of reflex box but done to the right standard. We need it to work for smaller parties really, so I think this is the key decision. We are not short on amp power so, I'm open to any suggestions really. I'm thinking 4 x 1850 hogs on a k20 35-75hz 4 x single 15/18" mid bass solution on 1/2 3600vz 75-150hz 4 orbit 4's on matrix xp3000 and 2 xt800 150hz upwards Dsp dmark xca for top end Dsp on k20 for subs Apologies for the rambling, just wanted to put it out there (and out of my head and on to paper) as to what you guys think is a good course of action and whether I'm on the right track.
