Baltic birch is now >$200 a sheet in my area 😢 And with the current political climate this could be the situation for some time to come... I just managed to find a CNC op down to help cut some 4x8 sheets when I called 3 local lumberyards and heard we’re now over 200 if it’s even in stock! So for a new, untested build what are some of the more reasonable/common recommendations for alternatives other than mdf (and if anything ideally on the lighter side)? One of the lumberyards I called literally told me to sit down before he read the quote 😂

Read a while back about using poplar. I think they were suggesting going up a thickness too... Its lighter and stiffer but softer. Thats all from memory. A google might yield more useful information!

I used poplar recently for a small build. After two load-ins battered and bruised all over. I intended this as the cabs had to match thirtyfive year old scoops using oils and staining.
In my opinion not to be used for "professional" use due to this.

Is it for a prototype build or a cab you are going to use like full-time?

It is the first build so may end up just being a prototype but obviously hoping it turns out as expected and I can jump right into making a second (designed to be used in pairs) to hopefully start stringing up for gigs sooner rather than later. Assuming poplar is probably a no go here then?
