I want to build a 'all in one' portable speaker using a 1 channel wondom amplifier board, a 8" or 10" speaker and a 1" tweeter, using a passive crossover. And power it with a 20ah 12v lithium battery.

The wondom amplifier board im looking at says 300w @ 40v @ 3ohm. And it says it runs from 15v-40v.  (can always change what board i use, just read good reviews on these wondom boards)

So on the dc-dc converter i assume the higher i turn up the voltage, the more power i will get out of it, but also the quicker the battery would drain. Is this correct?

If so, is there a calculation i can use to work out a good middle ground, for power to battery time ratio?

Cheers 🙂👍🏼

The amp will have to do "work" to consume more watts.
It may make a bit more heat at idle but that should not be much.

The buck convertor will consume power and waste some as heat. Depends on the converters efficiency.

An amplifiers efficiency seems to be related to the load it given.
Efficiency goes down with lower impedance on these chip amps when tested. Could be 85% efficient at 8oms and 70% at 2ohms.

Cool thats interesting to know cheers man.

I actually started building it. Well the speaker itself is built now, im just waiting for some other bits to arrive to test it out then fit it all inside the speaker casing.

I have changed a few things since this post. Be good to get your view on it, or advice or opinions on maybe what to change or that.
