G'day all
I want to make a couple of XM15s - the plans for the X15 list a choice of drivers - BM D450 and SD 740N, whereas the XM15 plans list just the SD 740N.

What I'm wondering is:
The SD 740N is three times the price of the BM D450 - how much better is it?
Is the BM D450 good enough for FOH?

I'm down in Poole, Dorset - is there anyone down here who is using these drivers that I could drop in on to have a listen?

any help appreciated

Dave

Good question - From what I've gathered reading about these, I've always seen the Neo compression drivers costing more than the ferrite ones.
I don't really know if it's for the sound or the weight issue why some prefer them.

The big difference is that the BMD-450 is a 1.75" diaphragm on a 1" exit whereas the SD-740N is not only neo but also a 3" diaphram on a 1.4" exit.  The 740 will go almost an octave lower than the 450 and handle more power.

Nice dave I am in Bournemouth as is Markk James and Void/Pro Audio Parts are in Hamworthy - maybe you should pay them a visit, they may be able to give you a demo!

All you need to know is:
Sensitivity + Power Handling - Power Compression = Max Output

Are the SD compression drivers just Neo versions of the BM-D range ?
