Been offered some blown PD186 for cheap.. but looking around recone kits for these are £165 each.. by the time i pay some one to fit them, it's not that much more for a brand new driver.. to me the cost of these kits makes the 186 a throw away driver.. thoughts please??

You buy kits if you can recone yourself. If not you pay a reconer

It is cost effective if you can either fit the kits yourself (a 186 is a two part kit so needs several different adhesives), or you are close to someone who can fit the kits. If you factor in couriers and all that jazz it can get pricey for a reconer to do it. It would come in around £200/£210 inc VAT and shipping both ways) Or you can send it to custom dude who will put some kind of kit in for around £20 less (Inc VAT and shipping both ways) However new drivers are still £275+ retail.

I’m pretty sure all Roy’s aftermarket kits are equivalent parts from Kurt Muller so still high quality stuff. He reconed a bunch of Jbl 2206 drivers using aftermarket units and the only difference is that the originals sound pretty tired and the others are fine.
