Hi All, Thinking of getting some Porn horns in the new year, as our system is lacking Mids. Has anyone thought of a better way to mount the horn and driver in the cabinet? Isn't there a 12in driver with a closed back so you dont have to worry about the box being perfect? |

Has anyone tried to sandwich the high horn with two of the 12" Porn Horns which would resemble the MT 122 ?

I'm thinking of just 1 mid and 1 hf in each box. Or perhaps have them seperate. Anyone know what a single porn horn mid will go down to? Think its 140hz but not 100% sure.

This is one for loophole. When he's done with his busy period he might
get round and measure his system (in more way than one, time to whip
out the wallet for some composite fibre glass action)
Problem with the dual 12" would be lobing, so one would need a much lower x-over frequency and probably a new driver/horn (or waveguide) combo. I am planning to do exactly this, but details will only emerge sometime in the coming year. Loophole recons that they should be crossed no lower than 140 (it's only 0.5m long), though a stack of 4 might look a little different. |

hi, yeah things are still pretty hectic round here. its been party after party recently, the rigs getting a right rinsing.
jamie, you bastard, you've just reminded me of the one key mistake i made in making my porn horns ;) i designed the box with very tight fitting trapezoidal sides which left a cm or two to the sides of the driver. but i stupidly didn't think to reduce the chamber volume any further - it would have been easy to just fit little sections above and below the driver to enclose it tightly on all sides. i have noticed a drop in the output towards the top end, and this would be the obvious reason really. someday i might get round to remaking the boxes, but not just yet..... ;) until then, the horns still sound lovely, even up high - where the output drops - theyre still really clear and clean. quite a hi-fi sound... |
