I have a small non audio related project going... but it seems something from the world of sound has come up in my project.

a Pulse Width Modulator is what i need to be precise.

how difficult would it be to design/build a PWM for 0.5amp to 15amp at 12v operation targeting adjustable frequencies from 10,000hz to 47,000hz? power supplied is 12v DC current from a car battery/alternator *so that means 10v - 15v tolerances*.

any advice to this at all?

What are you doing with it?

My housemate built one in an afternoon. Can't be that hard!
If you're modulating a signal, you compare the signal to a sawtooth wave. If you're just using it to control rate or something, well i suppose it's the same actually, but just vary the triangle wave frequency or the level going into the comparator.

I'd do it as a 2 stage thing, get the pwm signal at low level, then amplify it. No reason for this, other than it'd be easier to test/prototype.
