Whats the maximum sensitivity you can get from a 5.25" speaker? I don't want to run an extra amplifier nor add larger speakers to the door cards. I'd like to keep the car looking standard At the moment the best I can find is 92-93db, I only need them to supply mid range, 150Hz upwards. |

If they still do them, try Fane. 'Studio 5' if my memory is still ok.

I'm not sure if they still sell them. They are listed on Fanes website but they don't give any tech specs. Second hand isn't really an option as I'm going to need 4.

actualy, you wont find much higher then 92-93 sensitivity on most car stereo drivers. the highest iv ever seen are on some SPL brand subwoofer for cars. like audiobauhn's 15" 4,000watt extreme extertion subwoofer, it has 99DB. i also have a 12" 2,000watt ADF929, i do believe it has a DB of 97 or 98. this is only because they are SPL compitition subwoofers though. so anything around 90-95 for in car systems is about as good as it gets, that is if you stick with car audio....>=] *cuagh caugh* its not a good idea to use pro audio drivers with 100-102db sensitivity *caugh caugh* (thats a hint by the way) |

I found some Polk Audio (I think thats the right spelling) that at 93db which isn't too bad. I think anything would be an improvement on the standard 13 year old foam surround drivers. I haven't even looked at them, probably knackered!

you'll probably be disappointed to find out that cheap oem drivers are
generally rather efficient! Even 93db speakers prolly will actually
sound quieter(if volume is your main concern) due to lower thd and a
somewhat less nasty midrange!
Also don't forget you're head is only 1.5mtrs or less from your speakers! I use 85db efficient 5.25" MB Quart splits in my car with around 40wrms each and that is PLENTY(and my car is rather loud thanks to massive exhaust, pod and oversize throttle body/induction cams etc) |
