If I have two punishers per side, will it give me a good 40hz? If not, how many will I need, and what would 2 per side give me?

Hello,

A stack of two will offer 40Hz but at very high SPL levels I would recommend to set the lowcut at around 40Hz and boost about 3dB at 45Hz for the best performance. Remember the cone excusrion goes up quite rapidly below 45Hz. When powering them with 1600W a piece there is always the danger of over excursion when you don't use a proper lowcut. That could cause damage to the driver. The very low distortion of a horn makes it difficult to hear when the driver cannot handle the power anymore.

Best regards,

Walt

what would you sugjest me to use for a lowcut 40hz and a db boost? I'll have 4 punishers being powered by two QSC PLX3402 amps. They have a 30hz cutoff witch im sure isnt enough.

50hz cutoff I'd use just be on the safe side as I cain the f**k out of my speakers.

And because i'm lazy and poor I use the filters on the QSC amps instead of seperate processor with filters. They do the job at least the ones the QSC amps.

Hello,

I assume you use some sort of crossover/processor to drive the amps with the sub signal. Most processors offer an ajustable lowcut. The lowcut depends on the number of cabinets and the placement (outdoors, indoor, cornerloaded) I would start with 40Hz and the boost at 45Hz for two punishers a side. From there you can experiment which sounds the best in your ears. Some music doesn't require 40Hz in that case you might find a 48Hz lowcut gives you most power.

I use a Punisher in my small room as cornerloaded hifi subhorn. I don't use much power, 10W is enough to shake the room. I have used a 8dB boost at 30Hz. What I am trying to say is that the optimal settings depend strongly on the way of using them.

Best regards,

Walt

We've decided to use 4 Punishers per side. Most of the time the use will be indoors. We'll be getting a Legion Sound 24 channel mixer board, I'll take a closer look at it but I think it has an ajustable lowcut on it. I know Legion isn't the greatest, but it's good enough for us.

Be aware that the QSC 50hz filter provides a boost in the region prior to cutting.  Not sure of the figures but make sure you check it out before going ahead
