my mic input on my mixer is fried and i really need a mic for a radio broadcast this afternoon... if i stick a mono 1/4" jack into a stereo 1/4" jack socket that plugs into the RCAs on the effects return on my mixer that should work? right? EmbarrassedConfused

Probably not. I didn't really understand your description of "the jack that plugs intot he RCAs" but if you plug a mic level into a line level input you are goosed, easy bodge is to use a radio mic as the reciver will have line out and you can then go into a spare rca (linE) input....
