Hello, I'm planning to build 2 bass reflex kick bins, playing 70-170, each loaded with 2 x 15". What drivers would you guys recommend for this application ? (At the moment i own 4 ES18 but these are too big and heavy) Thanks. |

What about the B&C 15PLB76 or RCF L15P540 and LF15G401 ??

I have 4x Fane Sovereign Pro 15-600LF, and they really don't need large bin, to get going on kick or sub.

A speaker I use very often for that purpose right now, is a Beyma 15P80Nd. Doesn't need a big cabinet, is very suited (very flat respons) for highish (60-70Hz) BR, BP4 tuning or hornloaded kick bass cabinets. |

Thanks guys.
The beyma looks good but it's very expensive (340 euros) Any other mid-bass driver advice ?? |

Mmm yes, that's a price on the high side. Well it's a neodymium driver, so that costs some.
Where are you located ? Here in Belgium they cost somewhat less. The B&C 15PLB76 should work or any speaker with lowish Qes/Qts values between 0.2 and 0.3 and BL preferably well over 20. The RCF L15P540 has parameters suited for low tuning ( high Qes/Qts ) more subwoofer duty really. Edited by Peter Jan - 20 July 2010 at 9:16am |

build the b&c sub 215 - you can reduce the depth to 600mm external, or even 550mm, without it being detrimental to the freq response for use as a kick bin. It's waay too deep to just leave it imo. You will need to make the ports about 50mm longer in order to smooth out a spike that occurs if you leave the ports the same length whilst making the box smaller. you should be able to load with any of the b&c suggested drivers, and PD154, PD156, or fane XB 15.

Here's a design we modeled (winisd) and built for Fane 15XB, based on the B&C Sub 15 but smaller, the OB215

Arnolao, another way to look at it:-
Why don't you buy the lightest 18" neo drivers you can find (made by a good company of course) and load those into the es18. Saves a lot of time building, you had to buy drivers anyway, no ply to buy, no finishing or accessories and you don't lose any space in your lockup because there are no new cabs to store. Plus you could sell off the old 18" drivers.

I did a design for a guy on the Forum a while back that used a pair of these drivers in a G-sub style box. Anyone want a copy just PM me with your normal Email address. Tony |

Thanks for all the advices guy.
I'll do mini g-sub loaded with 15XB, using the same volume/tuning as Colinmono box. I'll post plan and build pics later. |
