Even if 1550 driver is a fine one, this does not fit this "1550 horn" as good as Eminence Kappa 15LF. No one does. I have done sims on alot of highend drivers and no one give a nice curve like kappa15LF does....good lowend (50Hz) and punch in the 110-140Hz aria...
You could go with the Kappa pro and you get more X-max and X-mech but lose 1-2dB in sensitivity.
I like PD but not in this one...(from my hornresp sims;)

I have now tryed a driver with a higher bl of 22 and it sounded more "hifi", control and more below 60hz. It's a shame that they are so hard to build :-(

build scoop, much more output power.
Support the scoop technology, larger mouth plays louder!

or yeah, see LjudLahger's data for simulations starting from the first fold. Personally I dont think that's as accurate (no offense intended LL). One thing with that data is ATC needs to be recalculated because the if you're taking the throat to be everthing up to the first fold then horn resp will calculate the orientation of the throat to be at right angles to the driver. won't make a difference to the response but.

I know this is a old post, but I just wanted to add to the records that I have done this. I have downscaled the 1850 horns (I have the modified plans aswell if they are wanted) to 15 inch versions. I have built 2 cabinets, and got them loaded with Eminence Kappa Pro 15LFA drivers. They play surprisingly deep, and with these drivers they can play much deeper than they are specified for without any problems, aswell as handle some serious abuse. Indoors I have no problems playing them down to 30 ish hertz, and they sound great. I have 4 ordinary old bass reflex 15 inch cabinets, and the 1850 horns completely dominate in comparison to those. Outdoors, I find that they start dropping off around 40hz. But they get very loud, and sound really nice. Outdoors you don't have any use for anything below 40-50 ish hertz anyways, you won't be able to hear it or feel it really anyways. I have my crossover point around 100hz, and my high pass around 25, with a 12db/oct slope. They sound really good, so downscaling them works just fine. I had to do some slight modifications to the pressure chambers to allow fitment of these rather big drivers, but it was worth it. With these monsters in them, they perform absolutely incredible. I have never had any problems with these drivers bottoming out or running into overexcursion. very good suspension on these, makes a huge difference. There is also 18 inch versions of these drivers available, for those of you who want to build the fullsize. Big smileWinkSmile
