Hi All, I would like to build some fairly budget compact speakers for conference work, only going to be used for vocal and sometimes background music. I was thinking of the 8in P-Audio Coax driver. Anyone got any ideas? Cheers Jamie |

Fairly budget then, Eminence Beta 8 225 wrms ,2 inch vc, and Eminence APT80 HF tweeter, with an Eminence PX2-3K5 2 way 400w rms x over[get the cabinet ready type with its bulit in L-pad and 2x jack and 2x speakon on special Eminence metal plate]. Or if u wanted really nice sounding speakers, but more expensive. The RCF L8S800, 170w rms 8 inch, as used in the RCF monitor 8 would be nice and the Beyma CP21/F 1 inch slot tweeter.

Slots are for...... you know.... :) Get a BMS 4538 or one of the Oberton 1" HF. Surprisingly cheap, surprisingly good. With the Oberton crossover at 1,6kHz and be surprised again how extremely good such a combo sounds.... |

Only german sources at this stage AFIK. Try www.lsv-hamburg.de, www.lsv-achenbach.de , www.lautsprechershop.de . And they can speak English on the phone if you cannot understand their pages (though they are fairly straight forward).

I built a prototype cab a while back, loosely based on the shape of the Nexo PS8 with an Eminence Beta 8 and an APT150 (same driver as the APT80, just a different horn). It sounds quite nice, but doesn't go very low (as you can imagine for a small box with an 8" driver). I've got a 100W OMP mosfet amp module fitted into it now, so it makes quite a nice active vocal monitor. |
