Just had to tear apart an apple Magsafe powersupply and reconnect the lead.
One gouge to the hand later and a bunch of self amalgamating tape and the MB Pro is once again charging and working fine. Preventative work may have prevented it failing where attaches to the brick. Adding self amalgamating tape as strain relief after pulling the plastic outer down to make sure there is not a gap may have prevented me from having to open up and resolder the now shorter cable. What a pain that was.

Oopps spoke too soon. it just went bang. guess it was messed up when the cable broke before. Hissed a bit afterwards but seemed to be working fine until bang. Pants :(
Oh well. guess im back to using a PC for a while until I go back to work and pick up another PSU.

How old is your magsafe?
In the US, Apple have just started a replacement program to replace the original ones with the new style ones because of the duff strain relief. Not sure if they have introduced it here yet, but it would be worth a few minutes if it saves you £70!

Thanks for thinking of that, PSU was years old when failed and a work one too which means cost them a lot less than that. Had outlasted the motherboard from the original MBP, had looked into that suggestion a bit with our apple people, but they said not.
