new mt102

   hi,
planning on replacing my 4 old mt102 with new builds on which the comps will be attached on the centre of the cab between the two 10'' drivers.
i read about this idea on one or two previous threads and decide to give it a try.it will make the boxes smaller to.
i was thinking of upgrading to mt122 but there is no money for new 12'' drivers so i will keep my old 18sound 10m600 which are not to tired yet.. and go for new cabs

Anyway,does anyone knows why the baffle in the mt102 is a 12mm mdf piece on the original plan?
why 12mm and why mdf(which i hate)??
is there a difference on using ply?
