Hi all,

Right...

Decided on 12 HDs not 8... have also decided to go with the proline 3000 amps.. 2 of, one to run each side...

The proline 3000 puts out 3000 watts @ 8 ohms bridged... (it also does 1800 watts at 2 ohm per channel according to the manual, so it might do 3600 @ 4 ohm bridged, but I don't really fancy running like this, and it's not in the manual).

SO... how the hell do I wire 6 HDs to present an 8 Ohm load?

Cheers,

Adam.

3x8´in parrallel gives 2,666666 which is documented apparently to be legal for a single channel...

NO MORE AMPS... 3 3K amps has to be enough! (1 for the 4 X1s and 2 for the 12 HDs)... they put out the required power, its just a case of working out the best way to wire em up!

Anyone got any sensible suggestions?

At the moment I'm thinking 3 on each channel wired parrallel, which should give me 2.66 ohms (I think??), each driver should get around 600watts like this and be safe for the amp (as its rated at 2ohms).

Yup, 3 drivers per channel is the way to go.  If you build them as HD215's, wire one driver to pins 1+/- and one to pins 2+/-.  Then link all three together with 4 core cable and assuming the amp outputs both channels on one speakon you're done. V.v.easy!

Bollocks... Have already started going down the single HD15 route... might have a chance to change to HD215s tho... will find out tomorrow.

If it's too late... What do I do? Wire half on 1+/- and half on 2+/-???

Cheers for the help,

It's not a major problem if you have singles, but for that many cabs, twins will probably be easier.

What you can do in the case of singles is to link the first three, then use a pin swap cable (reverses pins 1 and 2) onto the fourth then link the rest as normal.  It's just clever ways to link all the cabs on one feeder cable.

Just make sure you link through all of the pins on the speakons when you make the panels up to make this possible.

We have run 12 HD's off 2 PLX3402's, 3 a side at 2.67R.  getting about 500w per cab.  Sound great and certainly no discernable difference between when we run them with 750 per cab

Cool! I was sure I had enough power...

It's a toss up between Celestion FTR and P.Audio C15 500 at the moment..

I can get the Celestions for £65 each (they retail at £110)... or PAP do the P.Audios at £77 (if I buy 12 in one go)... no I can't afford the PD154s...

I have had a go at modelling the FTRs with hornresp... and to me the curve looks good, maybe even slightly higher output than the PD154s!(but its a bit of a lumpy curve)...

However I have no idea if I'm using Hornresp right.. I have only filled in the blanks from the screen grabs I got from here (I have posted the TS for the FTRs but nobody seams interested in helping me plot them).
